A. Iconog

Q. What does TFP with Iconogenic mean for a model?
A. You already know, that TFP stands for: time-for-print, meaning you get images as compensation for your posing. TFP with a good professional photographer is a perfect opportunity for you, to improve your portfolio, try out something new, broaden your network, and gain more valuable experience as a model and creative talent.
We like to offer our service on a free basis, to those models who are open for extended publicity of their images. Our time and talent will be compensated by someone else, who is willing to buy the images. Therefore, for you, the whole shooting, make-up and retouching will be absolutely free.
We work only with very talented makeup artists. We perform high end retouching on all images. A type of retouching our clients normally get big bills for. Our photo shoots go in a very fun, informal creative environment, and typically produce 20 to 60 class fashion, beauty and lifestyle images. You have a good chance of getting wonderful tearsheets, to include into your book or website. You even have a chance of being noticed by our clients for possible jobs.

Q. How many images do I get?
A
. Within 2 days after the shoot, (yes, that soon!), you will receive the results! We will send you all images in small resolution. Feel free to use them, but remember, they are not retouched yet. We will now start picking out the most beautiful images, and they will be undergoing very complicated professional retouching. The results we achieve are natural and very diverse. For example, we can make you look tanned or change the color of your clothes. This can be
very useful for you to virtually try out new looks. Isn’t that fun?
You can expect around 10 or more retouched images within a couple of weeks. They will be sent to you in a large resolution (if you want), and you will be able to print them in a photo lab of your choice, either for your portfolio, or for on the wall.

Q. Do you pay models?
A. Yes, I also offer paid jobs to models, with the following conditions:
- i initiate the shoot request myself, so I contact YOU, instead of you asking for a shoot
- i’ve already worked with you before (for example, you were my client or we did TFP shoot together)
- you are registered as a freelancer with a VAT (BTW) number and you know how to invoice; all payments I issue are subject to tax deduction, and my business must be absolutely transparent and well-administrated

Q. How much do you pay models for stock work?
A. I currently offer 50 euros per hour excluding VAT, with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 8 hours working day in studio. You work in warm, comfortable environment, with very fun people, including catering. All is asked from you in return, is groomed looks and professional attitude.
NOTE: when I pay models, the TFP agreement changes into Assignment agreement, meaning you don’t get images, only payment. If you still liked the images and want to use them in your professional portfolio, there are several ways to obtain them:
- you can use same web-sized images I use in my portfolio (iconogenic.com or ModelMayhem); you can just grab them from there
- you purchase an image from iStockphoto (this will give you additional rights to use it commercially, depending on a license you purchased)
- wait until something is published somewhere; that way, you get the whole tear-sheet instead of just an image

Q. How can I use images?
A. Please click here for usage rights information. Remember, these agreement can be customized for your specific needs, for which sometimes financial or other changes may be applied.

Q. Can I do a stock shoot with you if I am with a model agency?
A. Usually, yes. However, I advise you to review the written contract with your model agency to avoid possible conflicts. For example, if you signed a contract which prohibits you to do side jobs, our shoot can create a legal problem for you.
If you do not have any obligations in writing, you are free to plan any photo shoot. You are free to choose any photographer and make any arrangements with him.
Many agencies will argue that stock photography is not good for you because you don’t get anything while your images are being published. This argument is not true. You have to understand, that a client who purchased your affordable stock image, was never planning to hire you, or us, for a custom shoot in a first place. These clients are different, their projects are different, and they form an addition to other so called “traditional” clients. In other words, you do not lose any opportunities here. Instead, you receive new images or other compensation, build up new contacts, and gain a great publicity in front of the whole world, a professional world. Some of our models were eventually contacted by our stock clients for real custom jobs. You never know.

Q. Who is posing for stock and why?
A. The most creative talents are currently involved in modern stock photography. Many of my favorite photographers are actually my colleagues at iStockphoto, and I’m proud to say that.
Models who pose for stock, are also very interesting kin. At iStock, for example, you can find top-fashion models, beauty pageant winners, actresses and TV-presenters, fitness stars and even millionaires. You ask “Why would they do that?”. Well, it’s very simple: they like it
Posing for your favorite artist and seeing your images published all over again is a thrilling experience if you are a type of person who values creativity and fun above all.
